How is Camp Weaver different then other summer Camps?
With a focus on friendship and character development, we have spent a significant amount of time developing a culture of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
What about the kids who come to Camp?
Starting at rising 1st through 9th grade for Day Camp, and rising 2nd through 11th grade for Overnight, a majority of our Campers come from the Greensboro area. We also get a good number of campers that come from out of state and over seas. Campers stay in Cabin Groups or a Day Camp Tribe of 5 to 18 of kids close to their age.
What about the staff who work at Camp?
Our staff is made up of creative talented men and women who have a love for working with kids. Most of our staff is college age students from the North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, as well as England, Australia, Estonia, and other European Countries. We hire over 40 staff who are committed to providing a safe fun environment for our campers. Each staff member is hired on as either an Overnight or Day Camp counselor and expected to follow the policies and procedures in their given program. With long working hours and little privacy, it really takes an exceptional person to give up their summer to be a positive role model to a child.
Our mandatory staff training begins the evening of June 4th and goes until June 10th. The first staff meeting starts at noon on June 12th with Overnight Camp starting at 3:00. Day Camp begins at 7:30 on Monday June 13th.
Lifeguard Training will be held on April 1st - 3rd finishing up on April 8th-10th.
All other Trainings will be posted at a later time.
Are there other days I'm expected to work?
Overnight Camp staff is expected to work from Sunday at Noon until Friday around 7pm. Day Camp is required to be at Camp on Sunday at Noon for the Staff meeting, then reports to their bus site Monday morning at 7:30 am. Day Camp staffs' day ends when the last camper is picked up at their bus site, usually by 6pm each evening.
Staff are required to work at least one weekend, Friday evening through until sunday check-in, with the stayover program. The counselors working stayovers stay the weekend with the campers in their cabins. They are responsible for the safety and of the campers while at camp as well on the trip. Click here for a list of stay over trips.
Occasionally there will be groups that camp hosts on the weekends. This is an opportunity for staff to run an activity and make a little extra money. Extra help on these weekends is always appreciated.
Overnight and Day Camp Staff, with the exception of those working stayovers, will be off from approximately 7:0pm. friday evening after check out until Sunday at Noon. During this time, staff who live on-site may leave camp facility.
In addition to weekend time off, overnight camp counselors get a two hour block of time off either during the day from 11:45-1:45 in the middle of the day or 10-12 in the evening. During these times the campers are with the other counselor(s) in the cabin.
Once all of the campers at the Bus Site have been picked up, day camp counselors are off until the following morning at 7:30am.
Program Staff and Non-Cabin Activity Leaders will have two hours off each day that may come at non-consecutive times that differ from Cabin Counselors. During larger weeks of camp, non-cabin program staff may be required to help out/stay in a cabin with counselor responsibilities.
