What is different and unique about overnight camp?

An overnight camping experience for a child is so unique that they just shouldn’t miss it. Where else would your child make life-long friends and spend considerable time with positive role models. Where else would your child learn to horseback ride, swim, shoot an arrow, go on night hikes, appear in a skit and talent show, live without a television, mountain bike, create great craft projects, improve an athletic skill, canoe and learn how to appreciate home more.

What about Camp Weaver staff?

Our counselors are both mentors and role models, which is why much time is spent searching for the most qualified people to help your child learn and grow. We strongly believe that a camp is only as good as its staff, and the staff at Weaver is the best! When choosing our counselors we make certain that they exemplify the YMCA Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Counselors are given the tools needed to make your child’s experience memorable, with both safety and fun in mind. If you are interested in joining our staff, please contact us.

What are the facilities like?

Adhering to the guidelines set in place by the American Camp Association, from the carefully constructed bunks in our cabins to the nutritious meals served in Herman Hall, our facilities are well equipped and maintained with children in mind. Camp Weaver’s equestrian arena is home to both an indoor and outdoor riding ring, which offers campers the chance to ride in rain or shine.

Can my child bring a friend?

It is always good to bring a friend to camp and upon request; we will even put them in a cabin/group together. If your child doesn’t have a friend, don’t worry, our counselors pay particular attention to make sure that no child is left out. The counselors spend considerable time the first day of camp, teambuilding and creating an excellent cabin/group environment. The children are taught to think about one another in their decisions. The foundation of all programs and activities that we facilitate are the YMCA Values; Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Homesickness/Discipline?

Generally, we have a very few problems with this, but in the event that your child is unhappy or is in need of assistance, we will contact you for advice and further direction. We don’t usually have a problem because campers are so busy having fun.
